Some of you have heard about new enrollment limits on some Teachable schools going into effect today. As far as I know, Math With Avrila is \”grandfathered\” due to previous enrollments. That said, some conflicting reports are going around among teachers who use Teachable, so I\’m going to mirror all courses on the main Math With Avrila site, and I\’m preparing to make the self-hosted site the main location for classes.
Here\’s how this will affect you, the student.
First of all, YOU WILL NOT LOSE OUT ON ANYTHING. I\’m not planning to delete anything from Teachable, nor to delete any students to make room (one of Teachable\’s suggested solutions). The only exception I\’m even considering is converting the Mathematical Musings free \”class\” into publicly-available blog posts.
Second, since discussions with peers are important components of the class for some students, current Teachable students who want to migrate to the self-hosted site and be enrolled in the migrated version of their class need only ask. (TBH, you may have to ask a few times if you catch me whilst grading for The Day Job.)
Third, regarding classes like Calculus 1 which are available on Teachable at a discounted early access rate, my preference would be for students to migrate to the self-hosted site but if even one student in such a class does not opt in to the migration I will make sure all the intended content ends up in the Teachable version of the class.
I apologize very much for any confusion and inconvenience, and I feel it with you, not in the least because the beginning of the school year is as non-ideal timing for a formerly reliable resource to change for me as for any of you. Thank you for your patience and endurance as we figure this out together.
