Investigating a Formula

— by
Hello mathematicians, puzzlers, and other curious people!
While reading the current Mathematics Magazine (Volume 94, Issue 1) the other day, I stumbled across the formula n^4+4^n. The author made a claim about whether numbers generated by this formula would be prime or composite, and then proved their claim.
I did some further investigating, first to check their proof, and then to follow up on a pattern I noticed that wasn’t part of the article. Check back soon to see what I came up with, but first, play with it a bit to form your own opinion.
Calc You Later!

Update: next post in this series (contains spoilers if you haven’t investigated on your own yet)
