Tutoring

Hello mathematicians, puzzlers, and other curious people!

Do you want math to make sense? Let’s get started!

Here are a few of my latest reviews, in my students’ own words:

I needed some help to knock out a 6 week Summer Business Calc class after not doing any math for over 20 years. Avrila worked with my schedule and demonstrated expert level knowledge of the subject matter in every lesson. Whether helping me construct equations from cryptic setups, develop test strategies, or just review the standard limit or calculus rules to complete problems, Avrila always knew what was required and gave me just enough information to figure things out for myself. I can not recommend her highly enough!

She explains things so well and walks you through topics step by step. She is extremely patient and super nice!

Avrila is awesome! She is extremely knowledgeable and flexible with my busy schedule. She explains these concepts in a super simple way making it much easier to understand. She helped me get through the majority of my semester, helping me improve my GPA more than I ever had hoped. I highly recommend her for any of your tutoring needs regarding stats.

Options

Individual

If you need one-on-one sessions, individual tutoring is the right option for you.

  • in-person: $55*/hour
  • online: $50*/hour

* +$5 convenience adjustment for payment methods charging over 10%

Scholarships are available, however scholarship students will need to meet with a group if possible.

Group

Group tutoring is a great option for its social aspect, the opportunity to learn from peers’ questions, and if you need to be budget-conscious.

Students need to be in the same curriculum and at close enough points in it to have similar questions, unless an exception is approved (one I would usually approve is different books with matching chapter orders).

Rates are based on +$5/hour for each additional person.

  • Two students, meeting in person: $60/hour total, $30/hour each
  • Three students: $65/hour total, $21.66/hour each
  • Four students, meeting in person: $70/hour total, $17.50/hour each
  • Five students, all meeting online: $70/hour total, $14/hour each

Your group members can agree to a different split but the total must work out right.

If you don’t already have a study group to meet with, I’ll be happy to check my current lists for groups you could join or ask around about if anyone would like to be in a group with you. However, your highest chance of finding more people doing the same topics will be your classmates, and people in other sections of the same class at your school if the teachers sync syllabi, so you may need to ask around in your classroom, common area, message boards, etc. and find some group members.
