New classes in one week

— by

Hello mathematicians, puzzlers, and other curious people!

Two more classes will be available for beta testing on Monday of next week, which is so exciting because we can help more people learn math.

Especially for those who are finishing Calculation Toolbox 1: Fraction Basics as it wraps up its first beta run this week and would like to continue stretching your skills at dealing with non-whole numbers, check out Calculation Toolbox 2: Adding and Subtracting Fractions. We\’ll also talk about what adding and subtracting really mean when we\’re talking about pieces of things. This class will be at 10 AM US Central time on Mondays and Wednesdays.

You don\’t have to be in the Fraction Basics class that\’s wrapping up this week to be in this class, but you need to be familiar with the kinds of ideas we talked about in this class, like illustrating fractions.

On the other hand, if you\’d like a break from fractions, Calculation Toolbox 1: Whole Number Multiplication will take you from basic times tables to drawing rectangles on graph paper to finding out what ! means as a mathematical symbol (and why numbers get so big when it\’s involved). For this class we\’ll meet at 9 AM Mondays and Wednesdays.

For the mathematically ambitious students in the group, if you\’d like to take both that should work out OK as long as you don\’t mind working twice as hard.

Whichever class you want to take, make sure you\’ve signed up for the beta test group. Just as a reminder, we will also continue our Fun Friday schedule in the beta group, and I hope to see you all there.

For more information you can check out the Beta Information page or the FAQ page.

One last thing: if there\’s a topic you\’re hoping for that you haven\’t seen yet, please let me know!
