Graph Doodling

— by

This post previously appeared in the Mathematical Musings free class on Teachable. As part of my goal of becoming platform-independent, the Mathematical Musings are becoming blog posts.

Hello, mathematicians, puzzlers, and other curious people!

As you probably guessed from the title, I\’m musing about graphs today, but you might be surprised by what I mean by that. The chances are pretty good that when you think about graphs, you think about something that keeps track of the output of a particular function for each of its inputs, like this:

\"\"

That kind of graph is important and useful and you should know how to do things with it…but it\’s pretty much nothing to do with what I\’m musing about today. Instead, I\’ll be doodling and musing about some vertex-edge graphs.

Obviously there\’s a ton more to graph theory than we can talk through in a few minutes, but this will get you started on doodling and investigating. Let me know in the comments what you come up with and have fun!
